For Sandy Wijaya, documentary photography begins long before the shutter is released. It begins with presence, observation, and the patience to understand how people inhabit their traditions, landscapes, and everyday lives.
Over more than two decades and across 92 countries, Sandy has worked at the intersection of travel and cultural documentary. His photographs emerge from genuine encounters, seeking not only what a place looks like, but also the histories, beliefs, and human experiences it carries within.
At the heart of this practice is the Leica M. Compact, discreet, and deliberately manual, it invites the photographer to slow down, anticipate, and remain present. More than a legendary camera system, the Leica M represents a particular way of seeing: instinctive, intimate, and quietly attentive to life as it unfolds.
A Rangefinder State of Mind is a conversation about photography as a form of attention. How do we enter unfamiliar cultures with respect? How do we recognize a story before it becomes an image? And how has the Leica M shaped generations of photographers who choose to witness the world from within?
